Vale Keith Lymer

Obituary

LYMER, Keith. Aged 91 years. Late of Pickett Street, Bundaberg and formerly of Avondale and South Kolan. Passed away peacefully on April 24, 2017. Beloved husband of Ivy Lymer. Dearly loved father and father-in-law of Sharyn and Malcom. Loving grandfather of Dylan.

Keith was a wonderful life long supporter, competitor and administrator of our sport. He and his wife Ivy were great travellers and State Team members for many decades. I first met Keith in the early 70’s when he was State Coach and travelled regularly from his home north of Bundaberg to Belmont to coach the State postal teams.   Alan Smith

Presidents Report 2016

Presidents Report 2016

Author: Alan Smith 18/2/2017

2016 for QTS was a year of transition with significant changes and challenges.

We sadly farewelled some loved friends of our sport.

Barry Hilzinger, who tirelessly contributed right up to his passing with QTS committee work. Barry
was a formidable competitor and a wonderful helper at all levels. We also lost John Hansford from
Paramount who served his club his entire adult life. They were taken too soon will be sadly missed.

Let us take a minutes silence as we remember them.

We were proud to have 3 members representing us at the highest level at the Rio Olympics and
Paralympics. Bradley Mark, Dane Sampson and Natalie Smith all shot with distinction and are to be
congratulated for their dedication and sacrifice.

Many of our members excelled at State, national and international level with Dane having an
outstanding start to the year with wonderful results in Europe and winning in Sydney last
weekend. Great to see Bradley Lovett a close second to Dane in the prone. The ongoing
commitment from Shane Jones, Janelle Rossiter, Rod and Robyn Sampson and Jamie Webb and at
Nationals and youth nationals cannot go without our heartfelt thanks. I would also like to thank
Ann Bugden and Cynthia Jones for their continued outstanding volunteer help with the wheelies.

We currently have 3 members in Shooting Australia high performance squads.

Glenn McMurtrie
Dane Sampson
Natalie Smith
and a few more knocking on the door.

My congratulations to the RBA shooters selected for the WRABF World Cup in Slovenia in August.

Stuart Elliot, Annie Elliot, Bob Mulder, Bill Simmons, John Patzwald, Greg Schneider, Roy Muller,
and Patrick Sullivan.

With the Commonwealth Games only 14 months away we wish all those aspiring to make the
team good shooting and good luck. Unfortunately IPC events are not part of the Games. But there
are World Cups, Oceania’s and the World Champs in South Korea next year to strive for.

I reflect back to last year’s AGM where we truly expected the redevelopment of our State range to
have been completed by now. Challenges associated with the Shotgun range and approvals caused
a delay in commencement but as we can see the Jim Smith range has been transformed over the
past 6 months and now nears expected completion by the end of May.We also have a transformation
to a joint facility as the State range of Qld Target Sports and Pistol
Shooting QLD. QTS and PSQ management have been working on the structure of a new entity to
manage the facility and the formation of Brisbane International Shooting Centre BISC is complete.

We thank all those whose vision and enthusiasm to embrace such a change that has created BISC.

I have the honour of being elected Chair with Sharyn Petersen from PSQ as company secretary,
Janelle as finance director, Rex as administrator and Michele Sandstrom as co-ordinator of sub
committees.

A workshop was recently held in preparation of the formal foundation with utilisation of the
facility a key topic. I thank all those who contributed so willingly. The first sub-committee has
been formed to suggest an IT and Security framework for BISC. We have many challenges and
many opportunities to grow our sport. With a groundswell of support and an eagerness to
embrace the opportunity presented to us from members and friends of our association, we can
only hope to prosper.

Our clubs are the heart of our association and we continue to grow our base. Unfortunately
Maryborough Club is still trying to secure tenure of their range after so many setbacks. I wish
them all success. Thanks to all who continue to assist in club development through work in the
areas of, safety, coaching and enablement through workshops, demonstrations of formats that
can help make our clubs welcoming and fostering environments for current and future members. I
believe that we can work more closely with PSQ to grow our club and member base for the benefit
of both organisations. We have more in common than we realise.

The hosting of the Commonwealth Games brings with it a generational opportunity for many of
our members to be involved in what will be a truly magnificent world class event on a world class
facility.

The next 18 months are going to be probably the busiest in the history of our small association.

The programme of events is a little daunting but with help from all and combined effort, I am
positive it will also be the most enjoyable, rewarding and memorable in history as well. With
several international events on the agenda most of us will welcome the opportunity to meet and
get to know many of the international shooters coaches and officials. I can testify that life long
friendships (and even some romances) often start at these events.

I encourage you all to volunteer and embrace for what will be for many, a once in a lifetime
opportunity.

A huge thankyou to our management committee for you time commitment and support.

Especially to Janelle, Robyn and Rex who’s work ethic never ceases to amaze me. I look forward to
welcoming some new members to the committee this year and wish everyone straight shooting.
